Eco-Friendly Car Kit

Living a sustainable lifestyle is difficult to define because it can mean so many things to different people. Implementing reusable habits in my daily life was challenging at first. Even though my intention was there, I would simply forget. Like anything, if you are not practicing on a regular basis it can be very difficult to form the habit and make it part of your daily routine. When I say living an eco friendly lifestyle I don’t mean composting in your backyard. I am referencing more simple methods like using reusable grocery bags, cups, straws etc.

My favorite quote:

If everyone does a little, it will do a lot

Because this is so true! If you look at the bigggg picture, me using a reusable Starbucks cup will not save the world but it’s a start. The more people who implement these practices the bigger the change!! I love knowing I am doing my small part.

I am not standing on a pedestal telling you what you should or shouldn’t do because I am not 100% sustainable. I forget my grocery bags occasionally or will get a Starbucks plastic cup, sometimes. What matters is the effort to try and change your lifestyle. I found for me the best way to do this was to have all of my reusable things accessible and easy to grab. The worst is when you get to the grocery store and forget your reusable bags in your room….

So my idea to share with you guys is a reusable sustainable car kit.

I feel like most of us do most of our errands in our car. The only thing is I HATE having things roll around in the back of my car every time I turn a corner. So to solve this I made an eco-friendly basket to sit in my car so that way my reusable products are always handy and ready to be used.

I filled my basket with a reusable grocery bag and produce bag. Reusable produce bags are my absolute favorite bags to use. Keeping all of your produce in the cloth bags feels so much better than pulling a plastic bag every time you want to grab a different fruit. I would highly recommend ordering them from Amazon, Urban Outfitters or Anthropology. They also come in sooo many colors!!!

Another thing I put in my eco-friendly basket is a reusable Starbucks coffee cup and a Starbucks iced tea cup. Sometimes you don’t know what drink you are going to want that day so it’s nice to have options with the cups. I can honestly say I would be triggered drinking iced tea out of a coffee cup. So having both accessible for when you go through the drive-through is smart.

Along the same lines I love having reusable straws easily accessible for use. I put mine in a mason jar so that way they are all put together and look aesthetically pleasing. This way you can go through the drive-through and just grab one straight from the mason jar instead of having to scramble through your purse or glove box trying to find one.

So again, even though this is a small thing to implement in your life it’s very important. With the global pandemic going on a lot of places don’t let you use reusable bags unless you bag yourself. I have no problem bagging my own groceries!! The more you implement these practices the more they become habits!!

I took pictures of my basket in my front seat but let’s be real, if I hit the brakes one time it will go shooting through the windshield. I would recommend putting it in your backseat just so that way you don’t have to be distracted while driving yet it’s always there ready to be used.

If you make one of these for yourself and got inspiration from this post I would love for you to DM me on Instagram pictures of your own basket. I tried to color coordinate mine that way it looked as aesthetically pleasing as possible.

Love this idea Erin! I forget to bring my reusable straw waaaay too often so I’m going to try making a cute basket for all those things so I don’t even have to worry about bringing it. Another thing you could add to this basket is some reusable cutlery (forks, spoons, etc) and a couple hand towels for any spontaneous picnics out of your car haha. P.S. congrats on your blog! This is sooo cute and creative, I hope you’re having fun with this! 🙂 Now I’m honestly inspired to start my own blog too <3

Thank you for the sensible critique. Me & my neighbor were just preparing to do a little research about this. We got a grab a book from our area library but I think I learned more clear from this post. I’m very glad to see such fantastic info being shared freely out there.
